Private by design
Rainbow Wander was made as a gift, and it behaves like one. Your walks are yours. Here is exactly what that means — in plain language.

The short version
- Your location, steps, and photos stay on your device and in your own iCloud.
- We never sell your data and there are no ads, ever.
- There are no third-party trackers or analytics SDKs watching you.
- Anything is shared only with people you explicitly link — and never otherwise.
What we use, and why
Location — used only while you are on a walk, to bloom the world around you and to pin the photos you take. Your precise location is not sent to us.
Motion & steps — read from Apple Health / Core Motion so your companion can grow with the steps you take. Rainbow Wander only ever reads step data; it never writes to Health.
Photos — only the photos you choose to add. They are stored in the app’s private space on your device (with camera metadata stripped) and pinned to the spot you took them.
Where your data lives
Rainbow Wander is local-first. Your world, photos, and progress live on your device and sync through your private iCloud account using Apple’s CloudKit — the same place your other Apple data lives. We do not run servers that store your personal walks.
Walking together
If you choose to share a world with someone, the two of you can see the world you paint together. Even then, your live position is gently fuzzed for privacy, and a shared world only ever includes the people you explicitly invite. You can leave or unlink at any time.
What we don’t do
No advertising. No selling or renting your data. No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. No shadow profiles. No dark patterns designed to keep you staring at a screen — the whole point is to get you outside.
Your controls
You can revoke location, motion, or photo permissions at any time in your device Settings, and delete your data from within the app. Removing the app removes its local data from your device.
Deleting your data
We store no personal data on our servers. Your map, photos, and progress live on your device (and, on iOS, in your own private iCloud). If you use Paint Together, you can remove your shared blooms at any time by leaving the shared world in Settings. To request deletion of anything else, email hello@rainbowwander.com and we will take care of it. There are no accounts to delete, since Rainbow Wander never asks you to create one.
Children
Rainbow Wander is a gentle, all-ages experience, but it is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
